Mayor Dan Clodfelter was joined by state and national level officials to celebrate the unveiling of ReVenture Park™ August 7.
Governor Pat McCrory, N.C. House Speaker Thom Tillis, and U.S. Environment Protection Agency (EPA) Officials were on hand to celebrate the transformation of a former 667 acre Superfund Site along the Catawba River in Charlotte into the region’s first and largest Eco-Industrial Park. During the ceremony, ReVenture Park president Tom McKittrick was presented with an Excellence in Reuse award by EPA officials. According to ReVenture officials, the project creates one of the most dynamic and multifaceted renewable energy developments currently in progress in the United States.
“The City of Charlotte supports ReVenture Park and we believe it has become a catalyst for attracting renewable energy companies and fostering new technologies in the Charlotte region.” said Clodfelter.
When fully developed, ReVenture Park is estimated to generate over $900 million of new investment and create more than 1,100 “green collar” jobs. ReVenture Park will serve the Charlotte region by providing:
- large scale renewable energy production
- A “hub” for Clean Energy technologies, research, and development
- Economic development opportunities to create new jobs and investment
- Advancement of Charlotte’s vision to become the “New Energy Capital”
- Reviving the region’s largest section of abandoned heavy industrially zoned land
“Today, we recognized the work to transform a former textile dye facility into an eco-center for industrial space, a collaborative K-20 learning center, rail access, solar fields, and a waste-water treatment facility. This is exactly the kind of development we want to see in Charlotte.”
