MUSKEGON, Mich. — The site of the old B.C. Cobb Generating Plant in Muskegon will be developed into a new port terminal by new owner Verplank Dock Co. of Ferrysburg, Mich.
“By acquiring this property, we can establish Muskegon as one of the top marine port terminals on the Great Lakes while enhancing the local economy by creating new jobs and opportunities,” said Verplank president and CEO Ron Matthews in a release. He complimented Forsite Development, Inc., on the job they did rehabilitating the site of the old coal plant. Forsite acquired the site from Consumers Energy in 2017, taking full responsibility for demolishing the facility and turning the 115-acre site into usable land.
Verplank says the port terminal facility will be able to handle maritime freight, including shipping containers. The land that is not used for the terminal will be available to be developed in other ways.
